DELF and DALF Examination Center

The DELF (Diploma of French Language Studies) and DALF (Advanced Diploma of French Language) are instruments of international standard used to assess 6 levels of French of non-Francophone. They are designed and distributed by the France Education International  (former CIEP – International Centre for Educational Studies). Inflexyon French examination centre holds 11 DELF and DALF exam sessions in Lyon each year : ten for adults and one for juniors.

What are DELF and DALF exams?

  • DELF and DALF diplomas are the only official French foreign language diplomas provided by French government
  • their validity is international and unlimited
  • they are very useful if you want to settle down in French-speaking countries – to get a visa, to enrol in university or to find a job
  • there is an adapted version of DELF for young students from 12 to 17 years old, it is called DELF Junior
  • DELF A1, A2, B1, B2 and DALF C1 exams are composed of 4 parts : listening, reading, writing and speaking
  • DALF C2 is composed of 2 parts : written part testing your written comprehension and expression at the same time and oral part testing your oral comprehension and expression at the same time
  • You need to get at least 5 points out of 25 for each part (10 points out of 50 for DALF C2) and reach at least 50 points out of 100 for all the parts together in order to pass the exam and get the diploma
  • You do not need to pass DELF and DALF exams in order, you can choose only one of them or you can pass several of them in any order you prefer

How to optimise your chances to pass DELF and DALF exams?

It is very important to notice that DELF and DALF are not only language tests, they are academic exams testing your abilities to interact in French in personal, professional and academic daily life situations. Starting from B1 level, DELF and DALF exams also test your skills to work with a text and to produce a specific written and oral discourse (formal letter, review of a book, an essay, a synthesis, etc). In practice, it means that you can get only approximately half of the points for correct vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation in the speaking and writing parts. You can get the other half of the points for producing a coherent discourse respecting the task assignment and the requested discourse structure. Consequently, we advise you not to underestimate the preparation for DELF and DALF exams.
